An article published by Subhashni Appana, College of Foundation Studies, University of the South Pacific, Fiji studied the distance learning, which they defined as " a formal learning activity, which occurs when students and instructors are separated by geographic distance or by time. Learning is supported by communications technology such as television, videotape, computers, e-mail, and mail". They article also defined Online learning "any learning experience or environment that relies upon the Internet/World Wide Web (WWW or Web) as the primary delivery mode of communication and presentation". After further investigation Appana found that they were potential benefits to online learning which included, increased access to education, better quality of learning, increased preparation of students for a knowledge-based society, "lifelong" learning opportunity, profit making, and many more things. Research also found several limitation to online learning including online learning start-up funding, organizational preparedness & student readiness. Check out the article here.
